QUÉBEC – Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, has released a list of Gaspé and Lower St. Lawrence Area fishers fined by Judge Lucie Morisette in June 2009 for various violationsof the Fisheries Act.
The total amount of the fines imposed on the fishers is $10,300. Of this amount, $7,800 came from the Vague de fond investigation launched in February 2006 by officers of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region. This investigation uncovered a network of some fifteen people who reported false information on turbot landed on the Sainte-Thérèse-de-Gaspé dock in 2006.
The Department has a mandate to protect and conserve fishery resources and is ever vigilant in its efforts to prevent poaching of marine resources.
