Quesnel, British Columbia
Today, Dick Harris, Member of Parliament for Cariboo - Prince George, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal support for the repair and restoration of the Old Fraser Bridge in Quesnel.
"Our Government is working to assist communities that have been hard hit by the mountain pine beetle," said Mr. Harris. "This investment will strengthen Quesnel's tourism industry and honour our community's heritage."
"This investment will help us restore our historic foot bridge, a critical piece of our Riverfront Trail network that is a living piece of history spanning generations in Quesnel," said Quesnel Mayor Mary Sjostrom. "I thank our Quesnel Community and Economic Development Corporation for their efforts in securing this grant; it is a great project that will entice people to visit and learn a bit more about our history."
Federal funding of $1,759,000 is being provided by Western Economic Diversification Canada under the Community Economic Diversification Initiative (CEDI), a component of the federal Mountain Pine Beetle Program.
