The Town of Hawke's Bay will extend water and sewer services to two sections of the community with funding of just under $386,000 from the Canada-Newfoundland Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF). The funding was announced today by the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency); the Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Municipal Affairs; and Hawke's Bay Mayor Cornelius Hoddinott.
“The extension of both water and sewer services to these sections of the community will greatly improve services for 12 households,” said Minister Ashfield. “The Government of Canada is pleased to provide more than $128,000 to this project that will improve the municipal infrastructure in Hawke's Bay and enhance the quality of life of residents.”
The Town will upgrade the water and sewer lines on Bayview Drive and Valley Drive.
“The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to provide more than $218,000 to support the extension of water and sewer services, and ensure that safe, efficient municipal infrastructure is in place,” said Minister Whalen. “These projects will modernize water services for a number of residents, and support our governments' efforts to promote sustainable communities throughout the province.”
“On Bayview Drive, six households will have both their water and sewer lines upgraded and nine households will have their water lines upgraded,” said Mayor Hoddinott. “Also, three manholes and one fire hydrant will be placed. With the extension project on Valley Drive, water and sewer will be extended to six households and three households will get water servicing, and three manholes and one fire hydrant will be placed.”
“I am very pleased with the capital works funding approved for the Town of Hawke's Bay,” said Wallace Young, MHA for the District of St Barbe. “Effective water and sewer systems are essential services that will enhance day to day living for residents and position the Town of Hawke's Bay for future growth.”
The Government of Canada will contribute $128,716 towards the two projects while the provincial government will contribute $218,629. The Town of Hawke's Bay will provide $38,588.
The Canada-NL MRIF Agreement is administered jointly by the Department of Municipal Affairs on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency on behalf of Infrastructure Canada.
