SHERBROOKE, Quebec, July 28, 2009 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for the Festival des traditions du monde de Sherbrooke.
Funding will help support this year's festival, which will be held from August 12 to 16. Activities will include dance and musical performances featuring artists from the region, as well as exhibitions and tastings.
"The arts, culture, and heritage all help bring communities together," said Minister Moore. "Our Government is pleased to support a gathering like the Festival des traditions du monde de Sherbrooke, which provides a showcase for our artists while contributing to this area's cultural vitality."
The purpose of the Festival des traditions du monde de Sherbrooke organization is to promote harmony between ethnic groups through the appreciation and celebration of the various traditions and cultures in the Eastern Townships.
The Government of Canada has provided $99,600 in funding as part of the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program. This program provides Canadians more opportunities to participate in events that highlight local arts and culture or celebrate local history and heritage.
