St. Lunaire-Griquet, Newfoundland and Labrador
After six years on the road, the Granchain Exhibit, which chronicles the history of the French Shore, will finally have a permanent home at the Dark Tickle Wild Berry Economuseum, with support provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), a key economic stimulus initiative under the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) today announced an investment of $62,439 for the Petit Nord Nature and Heritage Society Corporation to relocate the exhibit.
“The Government of Canada recognizes the value of quality tourism attractions in strengthening and diversifying rural economies,” said Minister Ashfield. “Our Community Adjustment Fund allows us to quickly allocate much-needed funds to the help create jobs and build a better future for affected areas.”
The Granchain Exhibit is a compilation of documents and exhibition of artifacts pertaining to the history of the French Shore on the island of Newfoundland.
Over the next two years, CAF will provide a total of $1 billion in support to local economies throughout Canada.
“The exhibition has been without a permanent home in which to properly conserve and preserve the exhibit and repeated set-up and dismantling is causing damage,” said Lorraine Baker, chair Petit Nord Nature and Heritage Society Corporation. “The Dark Tickle Wild Berry Economuseum is an established tourism destination, open to the public year-round, providing the exhibit with an ideal home, and benefiting both organizations.”
Organizations and individuals interested in learning more about how to apply for funding under the Community Adjustment Fund are encouraged to contact their local ACOA office. For more information regarding the CAF application process, please consult ACOA’s website at www.acoa-apeca.gc.ca.
