Prince Albert, Saskatchewan
Today, Randy Hoback, Member of Parliament for Prince Albert, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced Government of Canada support to help the City of Prince Albert strengthen economic opportunities in its community.
"Our Government, through the Community Adjustment Fund, is providing a timely, targeted stimulus to western Canadian communities, helping reduce the impacts of the global recession," said Mr. Hoback. "This project will help create jobs and maintain employment in Prince Albert, helping our communities grow."
The impact of this project will result in 25 short-term jobs created. Prince Albert is the gateway to northern Saskatchewan mining development and services for northern communities.
The City of Prince Albert will redevelop, update and repair its facilities at the airport in order to support the existing Green Energy Industrial Park and accommodate new industries and traffic in the city. The expansion includes the extension of Apron 1 and Taxiway B; repairs to Aprons 2 and 3; and expanding on-site parking facilities.
"This is a wonderful kick-off to our Green Energy Park and a critical piece to Prince Albert's economic growth going forward," said Mayor Scarrow. "The entire project will generate spin off that creates a significant number of good paying jobs in our region."
Federal funding of $1 million is being provided by Western Economic Diversification under the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF).
A part of Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) is a two-year, $1-billion national program that will provide an economic stimulus by supporting projects that create jobs and maintain employment in rural communities.
The fund will provide $306-million over two years to support the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries, for instance forestry, mining, agriculture and fisheries, and communities that depend on the manufacturing industry. Western Economic Diversification (WD) is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.
