Ottawa, July 14, 2009 - Canada has lost one of its foremost actors and directors with the passing of Neil Munro.
Over the course of a career spanning more than 35 years, Neil Munro's work in theatre as an actor, director and playwright; in radio drama; and in film and television, leaves a rich legacy. A graduate of the National Theatre School, Mr. Munro's numerous contributions to the Canadian cultural scene include his work at the National Arts Centre, where he was a leading member of the resident acting company in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and appearances at theatres across Canada such as Stratford, Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, and Tarragon Theatre in Toronto. He was most recently resident director at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, where he brought his unique vision and commitment to the stage.
He received many prestigious awards including two Dora Awards, one for best new play and one for best director, two ACTRA awards, and was nominated for a Chalmers Award.
