Today, Dick Harris, Member of Parliament for Cariboo-Prince George announced federal support to establish a visitor information centre in Alexis Creek.
“ Our Government is working hard to build stronger British Columbia communities, ” said MP Dick Harris. “ This project will help support the diversification of the local economy, create new opportunities, and increase tourism in Alexis Creek. ”
With this investment the Community Services and Development Society of Alexis Creek will establish a visitor information center that will promote local and regional tourism products, services and outdoor activities. Project activities will include: installation of sewer and water lines to the community water system, parking area paving, erecting a pre-fabricated building, and building two outdoor restrooms. Once built, the centre will increase tourism, drawing additional visitors to the region.
" Today is a good day for Alexis Creek and all communities in the Chilcotin. " says Society President Bill Micatovich. " This centre will promote tourism opportunities throughout the Chilcotin as well as sharing our cultural heritage with visitors. "
Federal funding of $257,568 is provided by Western Economic Diversification (WD) under the Community Economic Diversification Initiative (CEDI), a component of the federal Mountain Pine Beetle program.
