Bonavista, Newfoundland and Labrador
Bonavista will enhance its tourism industry and visitor experience, with the support of federal funding provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), a key economic stimulus initiative under the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Senator Fabian Manning, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, and Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador, was in Bonavista today to announce an investment of $270,806 for the Bonavista Historic Townscape Inc.
“As Bonavista’s tourism infrastructure continues to grow, key initiatives like this help to position the community’s Downtown Heritage District as a destination of choice for travelers to the Discovery Trail and indeed, to Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Senator Manning. “This development project will support jobs now and will provide long-term tourism benefits for years to come.”
The funding provided through CAF will enable Bonavista Historic Townscape Inc. to implement Phase I of the harbour front development initiative. It includes the restoration of historic properties within the community, including streets and walkways in the downtown heritage corridor. Activities include restoration of Ryder House, Sweetland’s Lane, the Bridgehouse Garden and Mouland House, as well as renovations to the Townscape office.
The Community Adjustment Fund is part of the federal government’s Economic Action Plan. Over the next two years this $1 billion economic stimulus initiative will help to create jobs, maintain employment and support local economic development in communities across the country.
Non-profit organizations; post-secondary institutions; individuals; co-operatives; small and medium sized enterprises; First Nations governments; and provincial and municipal governments that have eligible projects that can be completed before March 31, 2011 are invited to submit proposals.
