The cultural tourism industry in Trinity received a boost today thanks to support from the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), a key economic stimulus initiative under the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Senator Fabian Manning, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, and Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced an investment of almost $490,000 for two projects in the Town of Trinity. The Trinity Historical Society will receive $250,000 to carry out landscaping and building enhancements and the Rising Tide Association will receive $239,589 for theatre venue enhancements.
“These two projects will provide important enhancements to the renowned cultural tourism properties of Trinity while supporting jobs and generating additional local economic activity,” said Senator Manning. “The respectful preservation of Trinity’s historic sites, along with Rising Tide’s dynamic theatrical productions makes this community a key tourism destination in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
The Trinity Historical Society will carry out landscaping and building enhancements to the historic sites that it owns and operates, including upgrades to the Court House, Gaol and General Building. Project activities include the implementation of a landscaping and parking plan, building enhancements to the historic sites and the development of interpretive maps and signage to further improve the visitor experience in the Town of Trinity.
The Rising Tide Association will undertake a number of significant initiatives to enhance its theatre facilities. Project activities include the construction of a new building for set development and storage, interior and exterior enhancements to the existing theatre, a more flexible riser system, more advanced sound and lighting systems, additional rigging capacity and improved box office technologies and marketing.
