Charlo, New Brunswick
Representatives of the federal and provincial governments joined company officials, and members of the community to celebrate the grand opening of Design Built Mechanical's new machining plant.
"The Government of Canada is proud to partner with Design Built Mechanical as they celebrate their grand opening," said the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State for (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency). "Our government is committed to supporting an environment in which businesses can thrive and grow. Through ACOA, our investment of $575,000 will help Design Built Mechanical Inc. add value to local resources, enhance the province's high tech manufacturing capacities and ultimately create long-term economic opportunities for this region."
The Government of Canada is investing over $575,000 under ACOA's Business Development Program, while the Honourable Donald Arseneault, New Brunswick Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour and Minister responsible for the Northern New Brunswick Initiative announced the Province of New Brunswick investment of $500,000 through the Community Trust Fund. With the support of both the Government of Canada and the Government of New Brunswick, Design Built Mechanical will enhance its position as an important member of the "Supply Chain" developed by the Chaleur Restigouche Initiative, hence strengthening the region's industrial base.
"Today's partnership with Design Built Mechanical shows our government is committed to economic development in Restigouche and New Brunswick," said Minister Arseneault. "By investing in the Restigouche region and helping create more employment in all regions of the province, we are putting New Brunswick on the road to self- sufficiency."
Federal and provincial contributions allowed Design Built Mechanical to build its new plant and purchase state of the art high precision equipment. The equipment will be used for handling, welding, bending and rolling big dimension parts or products at a high precision level. The new facility will enable Design Built Mechanical Inc. to supply its clients with high precision bending or rolling operations of oversized parts that were not previously available in New Brunswick. In addition, the company has been able to improve its productivity by designing and implementing a new lay-out of the building and equipment.
"The new facility will create value-added products and open up new markets. This operation will help carve out an enviable position for Northern New Brunswick in the field of specialized manufacturing. We, at Design Built Mechanical, are thankful of ACOA's support, of the Province of New Brunswick Community Trust Fund contribution and of our many trusting partners," said Luc Bernard, President of Design Built Mechanical.
The new $1.8 million machining plant will create work for 12 full-time employees.
