Today, the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of International Trade, Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Member of Parliament for Okanagan - Coquihalla, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced a federal investment with the Lower Nicola Indian Band (LNIB) to develop infrastructure to support development of an industrial park.
" Our Government is taking action to ensure Canadians have the infrastructure needed for future growth and prosperity, " said Minister Day. " This investment will create new opportunities and build a more competitive Nicola Valley. "
" Part of our economic future depends on this Industrial Park. Many jobs will be created as a direct result of this project. We feel that this project is just the boost our community needs in these tough economic times, " said Lower Nicola Indian Band Chief Don Moses.
With the investment announced today, the LNIB will develop domestic and industrial water infrastructure to service the first phase of a proposed 270 acre light-medium industrial park. Adding water service and hydro access will enhance the suite of basic utility services, including fire suppression for businesses interested in moving into the developing industrial park.
Federal funding of more than $2.1 million is being provided by Western Economic Diversification Canada under the Community Economic Diversification Initiative (CEDI), a component of the federal Mountain Pine Beetle Program.
