The Government of Canada has renewed its commitment to enable Water Wolf Economic Development Inc. to develop and implement its investment attraction strategy for the Lake Diefenbaker region.
Today, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal support to ensure that Water Wolf continues to partner with regional communities and municipalities to pursue short and long-term economic development projects.
" h today's investment, our Government is ensuring that community-driven projects will help stimulate the economy and strengthen the future growth of our region, " said Minister of State Yelich.
Funding for this project will allow Water Wolf to pursue shared economic development opportunities for the region as well as tourism specific initiatives linked to the Lake Diefenbaker Tourism Destination Area Plan. In partnership with surrounding municipalities, Water Wolf will create a business plan to recruit qualified water safety technicians to serve the region as well as develop consensus for municipal planning in support of future business and real estate developments.
" With this renewed funding, WaterWolf will be able to complete moving the region to a formal advisory planning commission, " said M.L. Whittles, vice-chair of Water Wolf. " This is a key piece in our regional strategy to create a transparent and user-friendly investment climate. Certainty about zoning, servicing agreements, and the community vision for the future are critical for potential investors, and enables municipal governments to make appropriate infrastructure decisions. As a region, we are laying the foundation for tomorrow. "
Funding of $250,000 over the next two years is provided by Western Economic Diversification Canada under the Western Diversification Program.
Western Economic Diversification Canada works with the provinces, industry associations and communities to promote the development and diversification of the western economy, coordinates federal economic activities in the West and represents the interests of western Canadians in national decision making.
