Riverton, Manitoba
Riverton will move forward with renovations to the Curling Club thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan, and the Province of Manitoba.
Today, James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk – Interlake, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification and Tom Nevakshonoff, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Interlake on behalf of the Honourable Ron Lemieux Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation and Member of the Legislative Assembly for La Verendrye announced the funding that will create jobs for Riverton.
“This investment is another example of our Government’s commitment to creating immediate jobs and building stronger, healthier communities,
” said MP Bezan. “The renovation of the Riverton Curling Rink will ensure our community has access to modern and efficient recreational infrastructure.
”
“Every time investments are made to rural recreational facilities we are strengthening what these facilities offer along with improving the access and experience for residents,
” said MLA Nevakshonoff. “I’m pleased this is what is happening to the Riverton Curling Rink.
”
The total cost of the project is $57,734. Funding of $19,494 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The Province of Manitoba is contributing $16,000.
Under the project, the ice plant in the curling rink will be replaced with a more efficient unit that will allow for excess heat to be used to heat the interior of the building and reduce energy costs. In addition, the washroom facilities will be upgraded using energy and waste efficient hardware.
"The monies received from Western Economic Diversification Canada will help to sustain and encourage recreation opportunities in our community,
" said Colin Bjarnason, Mayor, Village of Riverto.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
Today’s announcement continues the important steps the Province of Manitoba is taking to support economic growth by investing $1.6 billion this year, into infrastructure to stimulate the economy, create jobs, and renew the province’s roads, schools, health facilities, and water treatment facilities.
