The Alberta Avenue Community League will move forward with the Norwood Square Park playground surface replacement project thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Today, Peter Goldring, Member of Parliament for Edmonton East, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification; and Councillor Tony Caterina, on behalf of the City of Edmonton announced funding for the Norwood Square Park project that will help improve a valuable community asset.
“ Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, our Government is creating immediate jobs and supporting long-term growth, ” said Mr. Goldring. “ The Norwood Square Park project ensures our local families have access to safe and modern community infrastructure for generations to come. ”
" The new surfacing will provide a safer, cleaner play environment for children of the surrounding area, " says Mayor Stephen Mandel. " As a bonus, using recycled materials supports our commitment to environmental sustainability and once again shows leadership in recycling and waste management. "
Funding of $49,586 is provided through Western Economic Diversification under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program. The City of Edmonton provided funding of $48,000 towards this project.
Funding will help the Alberta Avenue Community League replace the playground surface at Norwood Square Park. This project will benefit all visitors by creating universal access to the playground and modernizing the surface with “Pour-in-Place” recycled materials.
“ We are appreciative of this funding, which will benefit many families in the community, ” said Mrs. Karen Mykietka, President of the Alberta Avenue Community League. “ With this investment, we can proceed with upgrades that will continue to ensure the playground is a safe and clean environment for children. ”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
