Saguenay, Quebec, August 11, 2009 - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced that the Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean folkloric dance company Les Farandoles de Chicoutimi Inc. has been awarded $76,800 in non-repayable funding for the acquisition of sophisticated visual presentation equipment for its show, Ecce Mundo 2 – Passionara.
Les Farandoles, which has been presenting its original show since 2000, is planning a new production for its 10 th anniversary that will feature a cast of 35 performers on stage. With this project, Les Farandoles hopes to draw a greater number of foreign visitors by offering them a large-scale, professional-calibre entertainment show.
“This improved tourism offering is sure to generate positive economic benefits for the Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean region,” noted Minister Lebel. “Les Farandoles and its tradition of excellence provide an exceptional showcase for the region's home-grown talent and creativity. Canada Economic Development is proud to play a part in helping the region build its dynamism and extend its international reach and reputation abroad,“ he added.
This funding, awarded through Canada Economic Development's Community Diversification program, will contribute to the consolidation of 70 jobs in the region.
