SAINT-SIMÉON, Quebec, August 17, 2009 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Member of Parliament (Mégantic-L'Érable, today announced funding for the 8th "Au cur des arts de Saint-Siméon" Conference, which will take place from August 21 to 23.
"Our Government is pleased to support this artistic event, which highlights the rich and vibrant culture of Charlevoix and contributes to the economic vitality of this wonderful region of Quebec," said Minister Paradis. "This is a striking example of a lively community that is keen to showcase its local artisans and artists, whose inspired works are a highly treasured part of its local heritage."
"The organizing committee of the 'Au cur des arts de Saint-Siméon' Conference is very proud to receive support from the Government of Canada," said Simone Lepoutre, the event's spokesperson. "Thanks to this contribution, we will once again be able to immerse visitors in a world of local talent, building on the success we've already experienced through demonstrations and workshops. For eight years, our community has focused on highlighting not only the works of our artists, but also the beauty of our Charlevoix landscapes."
The "Au cur des arts de Saint-Siméon" Conference provides an opportunity for around 30 artists and artisans from the Charlevoix-Est region to share their passion for painting, sculpting, weaving, and glass blowing with the public. Through exhibits, demonstrations, and various workshops, visitors will be introduced to the creative process and will be able to see art come to life before their very eyes.
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $4,780 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
