DOLBEAU-MISTASSINI, Quebec, August 27, 2009 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State (Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec) and Member of Parliament (Roberval-Lac-Saint-Jean), today announced funding for the Comité des spectacles de Dolbeau-Mistassini. The organization will use this funding to present a series of more than 20 theatre, music, singing, comedy, and variety shows from the end of August 2009 to the end of April 2010.
"We are proud to support communities that place culture at the forefront," said Minister Moore. "We want all Canadians to benefit from the wealth of the cultural offerings available throughout our country. These shows are an excellent opportunity to showcase the talents of artists and artisans in Dolbeau-Mistassini and elsewhere, as well as to stimulate the local economy."
"Congratulations to the Comité des spectacles de Dolbeau-Mistassini for showcasing our local culture," said Minister of State Lebel. "For the past 30 years, your passion and work have given residents access to culture in all its forms."
"The Comité des spectacles de Dolbeau-Mistassini considers this funding from the Government of Canada to be vital," said Audrey Jobin, Executive Director of the Comité des spectacles Dolbeau-Mistassini. "This support, which will allow us to present artists from other Canadian provinces, gives us the chance to greatly diversify the shows we offer."
The Comité des spectacles Dolbeau-Mistassini is a non-profit organization that presents professional arts activities created by professional artists. It also offers outreach theatre workshops for students.
The Government of Canada has provided $10,000 in funding through the
Canada Arts Presentation Fund (formerly the Arts Presentation Canada program) of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
