Colinet, Newfoundland and Labrador - St. Mary’s Bay North Regional Development Association is moving forward with upgrades to Cataracts Park, with the support of more than $90,000 in federal funding made available through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), a key economic stimulus initiative under the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Senator Fabian Manning made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency).
The investment of $90,254 will support upgrades to the park’s parking, picnic and viewing areas as well as enhancements to its walking trails.
“The Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan is providing economic stimulus to help communities mitigate the short-term impacts of the current economic downturn in the Canadian economy,” said Senator Manning. “By enhancing the quality of the tourism offering in the St. Mary’s Bay North region we are supporting the economies of Colinet and other communities throughout the area, supporting them to build a strong and sustainable future.”
Cataracts Park, a well-known site in the St. Mary’s Bay North region, encompasses 172 hectares of scenic attractions such as the Cataracts River and waterfalls. Enhancements to the park through this project will improve and preserve the on-site amenities and complement the existing outdoor activities available to residents and tourists visiting the region.
Over the next two years, the federal Community Adjustment Fund will deliver a total of $1 billion to local economies throughout Canada. The total CAF allocation for Atlantic Canada is $100.4 million and is delivered in the region by ACOA.
Individuals interested in learning more about how to apply for funding under CAF are encouraged to contact their local ACOA office. For more information regarding the CAF application process, please consult ACOA’s website at www.acoa-apeca.gc.ca.
