PARIS, Ontario, August 31, 2009 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Phil McColeman, Member of Parliament (Brant), today announced funding for the Paris Agricultural Society for the 150th annual edition of the Paris Fair, which begins September 2, 2009.
This six-day festival in the cobblestone capital of Canada features something for everyone. Activities will include performances by local artists, music, singing, and a First Nations dance performance.
"For 150 years, the Paris Festival has given residents of Paris and neighbouring towns of Brant County the opportunity to enjoy and learn more about Canada's heritage and culture," said Minister Moore. "Congratulations to the Paris Agricultural Society for helping make this event one of the best in Ontario!"
"Our Government is proud to support festivals like the Paris Fair that bring the community closer together," said Mr. McColeman. "It is wonderful to see organizations help promote and celebrate the history, culture, and traditions of rural Canada."
"The funds made available by the Government of Canada allow us to celebrate and showcase the rich culture and deep-seeded talent within our community to the tens of thousands that visit our Labour Day Weekend event," said Russell Press, General Manager, Paris Agricultural Society. "We are especially proud to be able to renew a bond with our Six Nations neighbours. A portion of the funding is being used to bring a First Nations dance performance to the grandstand."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $9,200 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
