Glovertown, Newfoundland and Labrador
The House of Diamonds Art Centre will renovate its warehouse to create a visual arts centre, with support provided by a key economic stimulus initiative under the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, Minister for the Atlantic Gateway and Minister responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced an investment of $54,265 for the House of Diamonds Art Centre in Glovertown, Newfoundland and Labrador. Funding for the project will come from the Community Adjustment Fund.
“This renovation work will not only support local employment but the refurbished facility will help position the Arts Centre as a focal point for promoting the culture and heritage of the Glovertown area and serve as new destination for tourism in the region,” said Minister MacKay.“
The House of Diamonds warehouse will be converted into a hands-on, heritage-rich centre offering art-centred programming that will focus on attracting tourists.
The first floor of the House of Diamonds Art Centre will be used to develop and house activities centred on pottery, sculpture, woodworking and large mural paintings. The second floor will be used for open studio space activities, including a wide variety of art classes and workshops.
The third floor will provide studio space for the overflow of workshop participants, individual working space for artisans, and space for private tutorials, children’s workshops and small classes.
Canada’s Economic Action Plan will provide a total of $1 billion in economic stimulus over two years through the Community Adjustment Fund to support local economic development in communities across the country.
Non-profit organizations; post-secondary institutions; individuals; co-operatives; small and medium-sized enterprises; First Nations governments; and provincial and municipal governments that have eligible projects that can be completed before March 31, 2011 are invited to submit proposals.

The federal Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), is a key economic stimulus initiative under the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Over the next two years, the federal Fund will deliver a total of $1 billion in economic stimulus to communities across the country in support of local economic development.
