Harbourville, Nova Scotia - A popular tourist destination in Nova Scotia’s majestic King’s County is being given a boost, thanks to support provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), a key economic stimulus initiative in the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan
Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament for West Nova, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, today announced an investment of more than $300,000 for restoration efforts in the community of Harbourville.
“This is an important project for a community that has seen a downturn in local resource-based sectors,” said Mr. Kerr. “It will help to position the area as a prime tourist destination, support local employment and help develop the many economic opportunities that exist here.”
This investment will implement Phase II of the Harbourville Restoration Project, an initiative aimed at rebuilding the community’s economy. The project will engage engineers and other contractors to repair the access road leading from the highway to the waterfront, and build a retaining wall at the east wharf to increase safety and accessibility for visitors.
In addition to ACOA’s $318,225 in funding, the Province of Nova Scotia through the Department of Economic and Rural Development is also contributing $100,000 to the project.
“We are investing in vibrant and strong communities for Nova Scotia,” said the Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, Ramona Jennex on behalf of Economic and Rural Development Minister, Percy Paris. “Enhancing infrastructure in communities like Harbourville is vital to helping businesses and tourism thrive, while supporting important community led initiatives.”
“An investment like this means big things for Harbourville,” said Tina Lutz, Chairperson of the Harbourville Restoration Society. “It will help us to reach our goal of creating sustainable social and economic growth while remaining true to the values and traditions that define our community.”
Over the next two years, CAF will deliver a total of $1 billion to local economies throughout Canada. The total CAF allocation for Atlantic Canada is $100.4 million and is delivered in the region by ACOA. For information on Canada's Economic Action Plan, please visit www.actionplan.gc.ca.
Harbourville, Nova Scotia will undertake the second phase of its community restoration project with support provided by both the Government of Canada, through its Community Adjustment Fund, and the Province of Nova Scotia.
West Nova MP Greg Kerr, today announced a federal investment of $318,000 to assist repairs to the community access road and the construction of a retaining wall at the wharf.
The Community Adjustment Fund is part of the federal government’s Economic Action Plan. Over the next two years this $1 billion economic stimulus initiative will help create jobs, maintain employment and support local economic development in communities across Canada.
