SUDBURY, Ontario, August 26, 2009 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Shelly Glover, Parliamentary Secretary for Official Languages and Member of Parliament (Saint Boniface), today announced funding for nine organizations that contribute to the vitality of the Francophone community in Sudbury.
"We are proud to invest in these organizations, which play a key role with respect to the well-being of Francophones in the Sudbury area," said Minister Moore. "Our Government is taking concrete action to ensure the development of minority Francophone communities and to encourage all Canadians to participate in our country's linguistic duality."
"These organizations play a key role in the growth and development of the Franco-Ontarian community by providing cultural and heritage activities for Francophones in Northern Ontario," said Mrs. Glover. "Our Government's funding highlights our commitment to ensure that Francophones across the country take part in the social and cultural life of their community"
The Government of Canada has provided $448,730 in funding to nine Franco-Ontarian organizations under the Community Life component of the
Development of Official-Language Communities Program . This program aims to enhance the vitality of Canada's minority official-language communities and enable them to fully participate in all aspects of Canadian life.
Like the Roadmap for Canada's Linguistic Duality 2008-2013: Acting for the Future , support for these organizations reaffirms the Government of Canada's commitment to linguistic duality and the vitality of minority official-language communities. The Roadmap is an unprecedented government-wide investment of $1.1 billion over five years.

The Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario is a theatre company that puts on original productions created by Franco-Ontarian artists and provides cultural activities to the community. The funding will enable the organization to carry out its arts programs for the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 seasons and develop and perform new works to reach a wider audience.
Le Carrefour francophone de Sudbury

The Carrefour francophone de Sudbury is a community cultural centre that provides a range of cultural activities for the French-speaking community of Greater Sudbury, including concerts, recreational and socio-cultural activities, in addition to community learning and youth programs. The funding will enable the Carrefour to fulfill its mandate.
Contact interculturel francophone de Sudbury

Contact interculturel francophone de Sudbury is an organization for encounters and exchanges for members of the various French-speaking cultures. The funding will enable the organization to carry out its programs in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011: orientation sessions, conferences, training, and awareness sessions on cultural diversity.
L'Association canadienne-française de l'Ontario (du Grand Sudbury)

The Association canadienne-française de l'Ontario in Greater Sudbury aims to maintain and improve services to the community in French. The funding will support promotion of the community's interests.
Le Centre franco-ontarien de folklore

The Centre franco-ontarien de folklore contributes to the collection and conservation of Franco-Ontarian folklore and heritage. The support will help it to provide a range of activities related to recording and disseminating songs and stories.
Les Concerts la nuit sur l'étang

Les Concerts la nuit sur l'étang provides year-round arts programs. The funding will support its 2009-2010 programming, which includes concerts in March, training workshops, co-productions and shows for teenagers and adults.
Prise de parole

Prise de parole is a publisher that produces and distributes Franco-Ontarian and French-Canadian literature. The funding will support its programs in 2009-2010.
La Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario

The artists' centre of the Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario brings together Francophone visual artists working in contemporary art. The funding will support their 2009-2010 programs: exhibits, interdisciplinary activities, openings, and guided tours.
Le Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury

The Salon du Livre du Grand Sudbury is a Francophone organization dedicated to promoting French-language books, reading, and the literary arts. The funding will support the 2 nd Festival de la mauvaise herbe as well as the development of innovative shows, workshops, and literary activities for the general public and for youth.
