Lake Alma, Saskatchewan
Lake Alma will move forward with arena upgrades thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Today, Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris – Moose Mountain, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Warren Michelson, MLA for Moose Jaw North on behalf of the Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Minister of Saskatchewan Municipal Affairs, announced funding for upgrades to the arena in Lake Alma that will create jobs for the community.
“ I'm pleased to announce our Government's support for arena upgrades in Lake Alma, ” said MP Komarnicki. “ This investment will create jobs and allow more people to enjoy our community facility. ”
“ Investments such as this will help put Canadians to work, encourage greater participation in physical activity and use of recreational facilities, and ensure that communities across the West have access to the essential infrastructure we need today and in the future. ”
Funding of $5,251 is provided through the RInC program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan. The Province of Saskatchewan will provide a matching contribution and the Village of Lake Alma will fund the balance for a total estimated project cost of $15,753.
Upgrades will bring the facility up to current standards for wheelchair accessibility and improve access for all community members.
" The Government of Saskatchewan understands the importance of Lake Alma arena to a healthy and active community, " said Michelson. " Our investment in this project will increase recreational opportunities that will benefit the whole community. "
" Funding from the government through this program will enable us to renovate part of our rink facility bringing it up to handicap accessible standards, ” said Wilfred Jacobson, Mayor of Lake Alma. “ This means more people of all ages will be able to use and enjoy our facility. "
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
