The Rural Municipality (RM) of Estevan is constructing new locker and shower rooms to support recreational facilities at Woodlawn Regional Park thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Today, Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Doreen Eagles, MLA for Estevan, on behalf of the Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Minister of Saskatchewan Municipal Affairs, announced the project will create jobs for the rural community of Estevan.
" The upgraded locker rooms supporting the sports field and walking path at the Woodlawn Regional Park will benefit our community for years to come, " said MP Komarnicki. " Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, our Government is creating immediate jobs and paving the way for Estevan's future growth and prosperity. "
Funding of $33,333 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan. The Province of Saskatchewan will provide a matching contribution and the RM of Estevan will fund the balance for a total estimated project cost of $100,000.
The locker and shower/change rooms for the soccer and football fields will be re-constructed to better serve users of the sports facilities and enhance their enjoyment of these recreational amenities at Woodlawn Regional Park.
" The Government of Saskatchewan understands the importance of Woodlawn Regional Park to a healthy and active community, " said MLA Eagles. " Our investment in this project will increase recreational opportunities that will benefit the whole community. "
" The RM of Estevan is very pleased that the Federal and Provincial Government have recognized the merit of the improvements being undertaken by the RM of Estevan at Woodlawn Regional Park, " said Reeve Marie Dukart. " The Federal and Provincial contributions have made this project possible and the improvements will be a tremendous addition to our communities recreation opportunities. As always we are pleased to continue our cooperative relationship with the City of Estevan to work together, on projects like this, to grow our community. "
" Woodlawn Regional Park and Estevan Minor Footballl are thrilled with the facilities that have been made possible through the Recreation Infrastructure Canada Program, " said Greg Hoffart, manager of Woodlawn Regional Park. " This project, applied for by the RM of Estevan in collaboration with the City of Estevan, Estevan Minor Football and Woodlawn Regional Park, is a fine example of how our Community continues to work together to create positive change. "
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
