Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan
Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Wanuskewin, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced Government of Canada support to help the Recycling Depot strengthen economic opportunities in Blaine Lake.
"Our Government, through Canada's Economic Action Plan, is providing timely, targeted stimulus to western Canadian communities, helping reduce the impacts of the global recession," said MP Vellacott. "Together, we're creating jobs and building a stronger foundation for future growth and prosperity."
The Town of Blaine Lake will construct an addition to the Blaine Lake SARCAN depot, doubling the size and increasing the capacity of the existing facility. They will renovate and install equipment necessary to operate the depot. The industry of tourism is growing in the area and the expanded recycling services will be well used by visitors to the area, as well as providing jobs for local people with disabilities.
Federal funding of $25,000 is being provided by the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
"The Town of Blaine Lake and Sarcan have enjoyed a long and co-operative working relationship since Sarcan opened their first recycling depot here in 1989. We are pleased that the Federal Government, through the Western Economic Diversification Community Adjustment Fund, has awarded us this grant of $25,000," said Mayor Crowder. "This grant will greatly assist with an addition that will double the current size of our Sarcan Depot. It confirms the commitment the Federal Government, Sarcan, and the Town of Blaine Lake have made to recycling and providing future generations with a "greener" Canada."
A part of Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) is a two-year, $1-billion national program that will provide an economic stimulus by supporting projects that create jobs and maintain employment in rural communities.
The fund will provide $306 million over two years to support the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries, for instance forestry, mining, agriculture and fisheries, and communities that depend on the manufacturing industry.
