Waskada, Manitoba
Waskada will move forward with renovations to the Arena thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInCM) program, a major job creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for Brandon – Souris, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for a project that will create jobs for Waskada.
“I’m pleased to announce our Government’s support for the Waskada Arena upgrades,” said MP Tweed. “This investment will ensure this community gathering place will continue to serve Waskada for years to come.”
Funding of $4,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInCM) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The Waskada Arena will be refurbished including new wall mounted heaters, a new hydro electrical mast, as well as upgrades to the ice plant refrigeration system.
“I would like to acknowledge the significance of a Rink to a small community during the winter months for social and recreational activities,” said Mayor Gary Williams. “I would also like to emphasize the importance of this facility being accessible to people of all ages for several types of sports.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInCM) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
