Beausejour, Manitoba
Beausejour will move forward with the rehabilitation to the Sun Gro Centre thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job- creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Today, James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk-Interlake, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the Beausejour Sun Gro Centre that will create immediate local jobs.
“ Our Government, through Canada's Economic Action Plan, is taking immediate action to reduce the effects of the economic slowdown, ” said MP Bezan. “ This investment will reduce the Sun Gro Centre's energy costs and ensure Beausejour has continued access to recreational opportunities for years to come. ”
Funding of $151,769 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Under this project, the Sun Gro Centre will replace two existing ice plants and inefficient pumps, compressors and motor components that are required for effective operation of the ice plant system.
" With this investment from the Government of Canada, through Western Economic Diversification, we will be able to upgrade the Sun Gro Centre Mechancial Systems providing the opportunity to extend, where feasible, the facilities operating season, reduce energy consumption by an estimated 20% to 30% plus provide facility users with a more comfortable spectator and user environment, ” said Beausejour Mayor, Don Mazur.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
