Delburne, Alberta
The Village of Delburne will move forward with the construction of a spray park thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Today, Earl Dreeshen, Member of Parliament for Red Deer, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and the Honourable Luke Ouellette, Minister of Alberta Transportation and MLA for Innisfail-Sylvan Lake, announced funding for this recreational project that will help provide an economic stimulus for the Village of Delburne.
"Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, our Government is creating jobs and building stronger communities," said MP Dreeshen. "The addition of the spray park will give Delburne families more ways to enjoy the summer."
Funding of $105,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan. In addition, the Province of Alberta is also contributing $93,750 towards the project through the lottery-funded Community Facility Enhancement Program.
"It is important that families and young Albertans have the facilities to be healthy and active while having fun," said Lindsay Blackett, Minister of Alberta Culture and Community Spirit. "Thank you to everyone involved for your hard work and dedication to this valuable project."
The Village of Delburne will construct a new spray park feature as part of the existing Main Street Park. This addition will complement Delburne's current recreational facilities, which include the Agriplex, skateboard park and BMX track, baseball diamonds and playgrounds. The spray park will provide a unique outdoor summer recreational activity that both visitors and residents can enjoy.
"We thank the Governments of Canada and Alberta for providing funding for this project," said Bob Manning, Mayor of the Village of Delburne. "Delburne does not have an outdoor swimming pool so a spray park will benefit our community by providing many hours of enjoyment for our youth during the summer heat."
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
