The Killarney Community League Spray Park will benefit from the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, Peter Goldring, Member of Parliament for Edmonton East, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, together with Councillor Tony Caterina, on behalf of the City of Edmonton, announced funding for this project that will enhance a vital recreational asset in Edmonton’s Killarney community.
“Our Government, through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, is creating immediate jobs and building the foundation for our future growth and prosperity,” said MP Goldring. “Together, we are building stronger, healthier communities.”
The total cost of this project is $269,380. Federal funding of $74,380 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, with an additional contribution of $195,000 from the City of Edmonton.
"The City of Edmonton is pleased to have provided $195,000 from the Aquatic Strategy Program to make this worthwhile project a reality," said City Councillor Tony Caterina. "But the efforts of the Killarney Community League are what make a neighbourhood great."
Funding will help the Killarney Community League convert the outdoor wading pool into an interactive, multi-age spray park. The renewed park will offer long-term access to summer recreation opportunities for residents and visitors to this area of Edmonton, as well as provide for increased economic activity resulting from project construction.
"The Killarney Community League is very grateful for the support of the RInC program, the City of Edmonton and residents of Killarney for the opportunity to provide our community with a wonderful spray park,” said Larissa Coates, Vice President and Treasurer of the Killarney Community League. “The spray park is an outstanding addition to our neighbourhood that will be enjoyed for many years to come."
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
