Saint-Félicien, Quebec, September 17, 2009 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $3,375,000 in non-repayable funding to the Centre de conservation de la biodiversité boréale (CCBB), better known as the Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien. Awarded under the Community Adjustment Fund of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, this assistance will enable the organization to renew the fleet of trailer trains that wind their way through the Parc des sentiers de la nature (nature trail park).
The CCBB’s project involves the acquisition of eight new trains each consisting of a motorized car and four cars that can accommodate between 80 and 100 people as well as an additional motorized car in case of breakage or failure. Furthermore, the CCBB intends to improve its facilities by erecting a building to house the new equipment, as well as a new train station, towers and an archway at the entrance of the nature trail park.
“The Centre de conservation de la biodiversité boréale project will result in the creation of 45 temporary subcontracting jobs for the duration of the work and the maintenance of the 160 existing jobs. The Government of Canada is proud to support this international attraction, gem of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean tourism industry,” noted Minister of State Denis Lebel.
The goal of the CCBB is to promote awareness, appreciation and conservation of boreal biodiversity and, more particularly, ecosystems, species and animal and plant populations of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, Canada and the North Temperate Zone all the way to the Arctic Ocean.
"Our government adopted Canada's Economic Action Plan in January of this year to tackle the economic crisis that has hit our country and the rest of the world. This large-scale measure is aimed not only at bringing about our rapid recovery, but also at laying the foundations for solid long-term economic growth and job creation. This Plan will lead to the investment of nearly $62 billion in our economy over the next two years," the Minister of State concluded.
