Rimouski, Quebec, September 18, 2009– The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $62,400 in non-repayable funding under the Community Adjustment Fund for the startup of the firm F.R.C.E.. Inc. in Les Méchins. The funding will enable the SME to acquire the necessary equipment to establish a plant specializing in the manufacture and refurbishment of wind turbine components. This project will necessitate a $456,280 investment in the Matane Regional County Municipality and will create 12 new jobs by March 2010.
To ensure the firm gets off to a good start, the funding will be used to purchase production and IT equipment. Upgrades will also be made to the electrical, lighting and ventilation systems in the existing building.
“The emerging wind turbine sector has created an opportunity for diversifying and revitalizing the Les Méchins economy. In funding F.R.C.E. Inc., Canada Economic Development seeks to encourage the vision of its leaders and their multiple efforts to put their expertise to use for the benefit of the wind industry. This assistance will foster the regional development of an SME in the promising niche market of wind power. Needless to say, in difficult economic times, the creation of 12 sustainable jobs means a great deal to the community,” said Minister Lebel.
Specialized in the manufacture of reinforced fibre glass nacelles, F.R.C.E. Inc. also plans to develop the market for the refurbishment of other wind turbine components in order to meet the needs of its main clients, wind park operators.
