DUNVEGAN, Ontario, September 11, 2009 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Pierre Lemieux, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Member of Parliament (Glengarry-Prescott-Russell), today announced funding for the Glengarry Historical Society's Fall Festival.
This annual three-day celebration, which begins September 12, will showcase the talents of 56 local artists, musicians, and performers. Historical activities will include pioneer harvest demonstrations, drum making, quilting, and a guided tour of the area's historic sites.
"Our Government is thrilled to contribute to Glengarry's annual Fall Festival, which brings the community together through its shared history" said Minister Moore.
"The unique activities of the Glengarry Historical Society rely largely on the tireless work of volunteers," said Mr. Lemieux. "The Fall Festival's dynamic program is a hallmark of Glengarry's rich cultural landscape."
"In its ninth year, the Harvest Fall Festival at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum will be the largest ever," said Jennifer Black, Curator/Administrator at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum. "Additional funding from the Government of Canada will allow this popular festival to expand to cover two consecutive weekends in September. During this time, thousands of visitors will flock to the tiny hamlet of Dunvegan, bringing pride to the vibrant community that supports and organizes this popular event."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $4,800 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
