Manola, Alberta
The County of Barrhead will rehabilitate multiple outdoor recreation facilities in Hamlet of Manola thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, the Honourable Rob Merrifield, Minister of State for Transport and Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for several recreation projects in the Hamlet of Manola. These projects include the rehabilitation of the existing baseball diamond, construction of a new basketball court, and the installation of new soccer nets - all of which will provide enhanced recreational opportunities for area residents and visitors.
“These improvements will benefit our local families for years to come,” said Minister of State Merrifield. “Through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, our Government is creating immediate jobs and building stronger, healthier communities.”
Funding of $11,650 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“These recreational improvements will help attract and retain residents to the affordable housing opportunities of a rural hamlet,” said Reeve Lawrence Miller of the County of Barrhead.
Residents of Manola and the outlying communities are actively involved in outdoor recreational activities such as baseball, soccer, and basketball. Upon completion of this project, residents will have the resources needed to further enhance their active lifestyles and draw more visitors to their communities.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading, and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
