Ottawa, ONTARIO, September 10, 2009—The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, today announced the appointment of Mr. Gilles Bernier as a director of the Canada Employment Insurance Financing Board (CEIFB).
Mr. Bernier's qualifications include 30 years as a professor of finance and insurance in the Faculty of Business Administration at the Université Laval. Mr. Bernier has published over 30 articles on issues related to Canada's insurance industry and personal finance. He also currently sits as a member of the board of the Actuarial Standards Oversight Council established by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. Mr. Bernier joins the other members of the CEIFB: Mr. David Brown, Chairperson; Ms. Elaine Noel-Bentley; Ms. Janet Pau; Mr. Pankaj Puri; Mr. Tim O’Neill; and Mr. Jacques Leblanc.
The directors of the CEIFB are appointed through the Governor in Council appointment process, selected from a list of qualified candidates provided by a nominating committee consisting of Mr. John A. MacNaughton, Chair; Mr. André Piché, Employment Insurance Commissioner for Employers; and Ms. Patricia Blackstaffe, Employment Insurance Commissioner for Workers.
