Ottawa, October 22, 2009 – Canadian musicians will be showcased at the 2009 World Music Expo (WOMEX 09) in Copenhagen, Denmark, from October 29 to November 1. This year, the Canada Council for the Arts is co-organizing a collective trade fair booth in partnership with Folquébec and CINARS to profile Canadians participating in this important event.
WOMEX, an international professional market of world music, brings together professionals from the worlds of folk, roots, ethnic and traditional music and also includes concerts, conferences and documentary films.
The fair allows music agents and artists to establish strong international relationships in order to further their professional careers. This year Canadian music groups will be featured in WOMEX 09 showcases at the Copenhagen Concert Center:
- Socalled will showcase on October 29 at 12:30 a.m.;
- Kiran Ahluwahlia will showcase on October 30 at 9:15 p.m. (offWOMEX);
- Yves Lambert & le Bébert Orchestra will showcase on October 31 at 9:30 pm.

On Friday, October 30, the Canada Council for the Arts will host a Canadian networking reception, to which international concert and festival bookers, labels, distributors and radio broadcasters will be invited to meet with Canadian participants.

The Canada Council for the Arts is a federal Crown corporation created by an Act of Parliament in 1957. The role of the Council is to foster and promote the study and enjoyment of, and the production of works in, the arts. To fulfill this mandate, the Council offers a broad range of grants and services to professional Canadian artists and arts organizations in dance, integrated arts, media arts, music, theatre, visual arts, and writing and publishing. It also promotes public awareness of the arts through its communications, research and arts promotion activities.

L’Association Folquébec is a Québec-registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and diffusion of folk music made in Québec. The organization takes the form of a consortium of people and businesses from the Québec folk-world-trad music and dance community and includes artists, producers, managers, agents, recording and distribution companies who are dedicated to the artistic and commercial development of the genre. Our primary goal is to expand North American and international recognition of Québec folk music culture in all its abundance, quality and diversity. Folquébec activities are open to all members of the Québec folk community.
CINARS (The International Exchange for the Performing Arts) is a not-for-profit organization based in Montreal. Since 1984, CINARS has been committed to furthering the international recognition of the performing arts. Over the years, CINARS has taken on the role as ambassador of the Québec and Canadian performing arts, as well as the role of expert in the field of international performing arts touring. CINARS is recognized worldwide for its biennial Platform that brings together nearly 1000 artists, agents, presenters, producers and observers from 50 countries.
The growing presence of CINARS on the international scene is also made evident by its involvement in various international performing arts fairs around the world, as well as its organization of various market-development missions abroad.
