CFB KINGSTON, Ont. – The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, today announced a significant investment in defence infrastructure for CFB Kingston and the Royal Military College (RMC) Kingston. These infrastructure projects will generate economic benefits and significant employment opportunities throughout the course of the work.
The projects, worth close to $300 million, include training facilities, a new health services centre, an all ranks dining facility and other upgrades at CFB Kingston. This investment will also benefit RMC Kingston with the renovation of an academic complex and dormitories, as well as a new security and access control program.
“This significant investment in Kingston infrastructure further demonstrates the Government’s commitment to our Canadian Forces, providing them with the facilities, tools, education, and training they need to carry out their work as effectively as possible,” said Minister MacKay. “These investments benefit not only military personnel and their families, but also provide economic support to this region.”
The Government of Canada is conducting open, fair, and transparent competitive processes in order to award the construction contracts for the projects located at CFB Kingston.
In line with the Canada First Defence Strategy, there is a need to update and replace dated defence infrastructure to meet the challenges of the 21st century. The Government’s significant investments in defence infrastructure provide economic benefits to communities across Canada.
The Department of National Defence holds a large number of properties all across the country to support the Canadian Forces, including some 21,000 buildings, 2.25 million hectares of land, 5,500 km of roads, and 3,000 km of water, storm, and sewer pipes.
