Bishop's Falls, Newfoundland and Labrador
Skaters and hockey players in Bishop’s Falls will enjoy their ice time even more this winter thanks to the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, Minister for the Atlantic Gateway and Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador today announced an investment of $31,906 to support upgrades to the town’s Pat O’Reilly Memorial Community Centre. The federal funds are being provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) Program, a major component of the Economic Action Plan.
“The Government of Canada recognizes how important recreational facilities are for Canadian families and communities,” said Minister MacKay. “We are pleased to make this investment through Canada’s Economic Action Plan so that people can learn new skills, brush up on old ones, get fit and have fun.”
With this funding the Town of Bishop’s Falls will replace the boards at the ice surface in the arena.
Canada’s Economic Action Plan is providing $500 million over two years for the RInC program, to support upgrading and renewal of recreational facilities in communities across the country, and encourage increased participation in physical activity and community building.
Municipalities, First Nations governments, community organizations and other not-for-profit entities in Atlantic Canada that have eligible projects that can be completed before March 31, 2011, are invited to submit their proposals.
