LONGUEUIL, QUEBEC, October 26, 2009—Young people in Longueuil and the surrounding area will be able to attend three job fairs thanks to support from the Government of Canada. The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Member of Parliament for Mégantic–L’Érable, made the announcement today, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.
“In today’s environment, it is more important than ever that all Canadians have the skills and information they need to participate and succeed in the job market,” said Minister Paradis. “Our government is proud to support these job fairs that will benefit both youth and local employers.”
Place Rive-Sud received $25,000 through the Government of Canada’s Youth Awareness program to organize three job fairs. Each fair will assist over 500 youth, between the ages of 16 and 35, in finding employment.
“It is important to offer services that are adapted to youth so they can join the labour force and improve their quality of life,” stated Ms. Paule Laprise, Director General of Place Rive‑Sud. “This project will help many youth in the area make contact with potential employers and have a significant employment experience.”
The Youth Awareness program is part of the Government of Canada’s strategy to help foster the best educated, most skilled and most flexible workforce in the world.

Founded in 1984, Place Rive-Sud is a non‑profit organization that works to improve living conditions for the unemployed through activities and programs that foster access to the labour market and job retention. Since October 13, 2009, the organization has been working to organize and plan three job fairs at which employers seeking staff will present their companies and the positions available. Participants will benefit from on‑site selection interviews. Approximately 500 youth are expected to attend each of the fairs.
The federal Youth Awareness program, funded under Employment Insurance Part II, targets projects that respond to specific labour market requirements and adjustments over time, and aims to promote youth as the workforce of the future among recipients, employers, communities and young Canadians.
