MILL RIVER, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, October 7, 2009—Youth in western Prince Edward Island will benefit from a career expo thanks to support from the Government of Canada. The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and Member of Parliament for Egmont, made the announcement today, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.
“In today’s environment, it is more important than ever that all Canadians have the skills and information they need to participate and succeed in the job market,” said Minister Shea. “Our government is proud to support this career expo that benefits both youth and local employers.”
Resources West Inc. received $22,498 through the Government of Canada’s Youth Awareness program to organize its Career Expo, which will be held at the Rodd Mill River Resort. The expo will assist 600 youth in the West Prince area, between the ages of 15 and 30, in making informed career choices, and will allow them to explore what education and experience is required to enter the labour market in various career paths.
“We would like to thank the Government of Canada for its support of this career expo,” said Mr. David Anderson, Managing Director of Resources West. “This expo will go a long way toward helping our local young people find employment, and we’re happy that the Government of Canada recognizes how important that is.”
The Youth Awareness program is part of the Government of Canada’s strategy to create the best educated, most skilled and most flexible workforce in the world.
The Government underscored its commitment to this strategy in Canada’s Economic Action Plan. A key component of the Plan is to create more and better opportunities for Canadian workers through skills development. To learn more about Canada’s Economic Action Plan, visit www.actionplan.gc.ca.
