Ottawa, Ontario (October 8, 2009) - The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, today announced the appointment of Mr. John David Pollard to the Board of the First Nations Statistical Institute (FNSI).
“I am pleased with the appointment of Mr. Pollard,” noted Minister Strahl. “His extensive experience in both the public and private sectors makes him a great asset to the organization.”
A self-employed businessman, Mr. Pollard was a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories for eight years and held various ministerial posts including Finance. More recently he was the Mayor of the Town of Hay River, where he resides.
The FNSI is one of four First Nation institutions created through the First Nations Fiscal and Statistical Management Act which came into force on April 1, 2006. The FNSI is a Crown Corporation whose purposes are to provide First Nations and governments with statistical information and analysis on the fiscal, economic, and social conditions of First Nations; and to work with Statistics Canada to ensure that national statistical systems meet the needs of First Nations and Canada.
