Dauphin, Manitoba
Inky Mark, Member of Parliament for Dauphin – Swan River – Marquette, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification (WD) announced government support to help the Dauphin Community Cinema Inc. strengthen economic opportunities in Dauphin.
I’m pleased to announce that our Government, through the Economic Action Plan, is supporting the Dauphin Community Cinema,” said MP Inky Mark. “This investment is creating jobs for our community during these tough times, while helping build the foundation for future growth.”
Under this project, a multi-use, four-plex theatre is being developed at the Parkland Recreation Complex site. The theatre will be run as a not-for-profit entity that will provide space for first-run movies, lectures, meetings, and conferences. Revenue generated will be re-invested in community recreation and local charitable activities.
Federal funding of $1.2 million is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“This proposed multi-purpose cinema is a great example of planning for long-term success and sustainability,” said Ron Hedley, Chairman of the Dauphin Community Cinema Inc. “It combines two very much needed facilities for Dauphin and the Parkland . . . a cinema with conference space and breakout rooms.”
A part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, CAF is a two-year, $1 billion national program that is providing an economic stimulus by supporting projects that create jobs and maintain employment in rural communities.
The fund will provide $306 million over two years to support the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries, for instance forestry, mining, agriculture, and fisheries, and communities that depend on the manufacturing industry. WD is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.
