Carleton-sur-Mer, Quebec, November 9, 2009 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced that Les Habitations Mont-Carleton Inc. has been awarded $400,500 in repayable funding through the Business and Regional Growth program to implement a commercialization strategy for its nomadeck, an unparalleled housing model, on Canadian, American and European markets. Requiring an overall investment of $2,732,600, this project will result in the creation of 25 new jobs in the area.
Specializing in the construction of pre-fabricated homes and buildings since 1992, Les Habitations Mont-Carleton Inc. created the nomadeck, an innovative two-storey chalet, following three years of research and development. The only housing concept of its kind in the world, the nomadeck is equipped with state-of-the art technology that allows it to be easily folded, transported and reinstalled in a different location, without even having to remove the furnishings. The enterprise hopes to bolster its sales with this unique new building concept.
“Supporting the commercialization of innovative new products is a priority for the Government of Canada. With this funding from Canada Economic Development, Les Habitations Mont-Carleton Inc. will be in a position to penetrate domestic and foreign markets and pursue its growth,” explained the Minister of State.
“This company has managed to distinguish itself by developing high value-added products and now plays an active role in diversifying an economy that centres mainly on forest development. This commercialization project promises to generate considerable spinoffs for the firm and for the region as a whole, most notably in terms of job creation. It is precisely with a view to promoting the long-term growth of our regions during this period of economic downturn that our government adopted Canada’s Economic Action Plan,” he concluded.
Les Habitations Mont-Carleton will thus launch a 24-month commercialization strategy that involves producing and distributing promotional materials, taking part in trade fairs and industry shows and visiting target markets.
Canada Economic Development’s Business and Regional Growth program seeks to strengthen the conditions conducive to the sustainable growth of Quebec’s regions and small and medium-sized enterprises by helping businesses improve their performance, become more competitive, engage more heavily in innovation and develop new markets.
