Yamachiche, Quebec, November 24, 2009 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $413,000 in repayable funding to Groupe RCM Inc. through the Community Adjustment Fund, a measure provided for under Canada’s Economic Action Plan, to enable the organization to purchase equipment and thus increase its capacity for processing post-consumer plastics.
For more than 25 years, Groupe RCM Inc. has been operating in the recycling and recovery sector and fostering the integration of disabled persons into the workforce. The group has four main divisions: Récupération Mauricie for selective collection; the plastics division for the sorting and reclamation centre; paper and cardboard collection among institutions, businesses and industries; and lastly, office paper sorting by individuals living with a severe handicap.
"Our government adopted Canada’s Economic Action Plan in January of this year to tackle the economic crisis that has hit our country and the rest of the world. This large-scale measure is aimed not only at bringing about rapid recovery, but also at laying the foundations for solid long-term economic growth and job creation. This Plan will translate into nearly $62 billion in funding being invested in our economy over the next two years," explained Minister of State Lebel.
This contribution from Canada Economic Development will enable Groupe RCM to acquire the equipment it needs to transform cardboard into pellets, shred plastics and operate and control the entire production line. Completion of this project will result in the creation of 25 full-time jobs and the maintenance of 80 existing positions.
"In addition to helping Groupe RCM significantly increase its revenues, this project promises to create a ripple effect among other firms in the recycling and recovery sector, have a positive impact on the environment and promote diversification of the regional economy," the Minister of State concluded.
