MONTRÉAL, November 13, 2009 -On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Member of Parliament (Mégantic-L'Érable), today announced funding for Canton and Cusmano Media, publisher of Accenti magazine.
"Our Government is proud to have renewed its funding for Canadian magazines and community newspapers," said Minister Moore. "This will help publications such as Accenti continue to provide Canadians with news and reporting that are relevant to them."
"Accenti provides especially captivating articles for anyone who shares an affinity with all things Italian," said Minister Paradis. "It is an eloquent example of how Canadian magazines can enliven and strengthen our communities."
"Accenti magazine is grateful to the Government of Canada for its support," said Domenic Cusmano, Publisher. "Support such as this for small magazines is indispensible in ensuring much-needed diversity. The grant will allow Accenti to gain a more stable footing in a very challenging publishing environment."
Funding in the amount of $38,000 will help Accenti magazine increase its subscriber base by conducting a direct mail campaign in Quebec and Ontario. It is being provided through the Support for Business Development for Magazine Publishers component of the Canada Magazine Fund.
Last February, the Government announced that it would maintain its support to Canadian magazines through the creation of the Canada Periodical Fund, a modern, streamlined program that will replace the Canada Magazine Fund and the Publications Assistance Program.
