The appeal of one of western Nova Scotia’s recreational favourites is being enhanced thanks to the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), a key economic stimulus initiative contained in the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament for West Nova, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway today announced an investment of more than $40,000 to beautify Meteghan Park and stimulate the economy of this western Nova Scotia community.
“The Government of Canada is pleased to invest in this project to support the development of this valuable community asset,” said Mr. Kerr. “This investment reflects the goals of our Government’s Economic Action Plan by continuing to provide timely and targeted stimulus to communities across the country.”
Meteghan Park is a leisure area located along Highway #1 in Meteghan. The park is a family-oriented recreational destination with activities for children and adults alike, including space for beach volleyball, basketball, and picnics.
The Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, is supporting the final phase of development to the park. This phase will involve replacing crumbling asphalt with Eurostone pavers. The project will work to beautify the park’s entrance while making it easier for people to enter the grounds.
“The park is the only one if its kind in the area with something for all ages, for the physically active and physically challenged,” said Dr. Harold Boudreau, President of the Meteghan Park Development Association. “The addition of this amenity in the Municipality of Clare will complement other efforts to attract visitors to Nova Scotia’s French Shore”
