The Recreational Centre in Rivère-Verte will soon be able to offer a more energy efficient facility to the community thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) Program, a key economic stimulus initiative under Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The Honourable Senator Percy Mockler, announced today funding of $12,000 to the energy improvements project.
“Our government, through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, is committed to maintaining community recreational infrastructure such as the recreation centre in Rivère- Verte,” said the Honourable Senator Percy Mockler, on behalf of the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency). “This investment made possible through the RInC program, will provide much- needed economic stimulus while providing the people of this region with better facilities in which to play, relax and build community life.”
“The Village of Rivière-Verte is very pleased to have the support of the federal governments on this very important renovation of our recreational center, which was built many years ago,” said Rivière-Verte Mayor, Michel LeBlond. “This funding will allow us to make this building more energy efficient and improve the recreational services offered to the citizens of the village and the region.”
The project will assist with energy efficiency improvements to the Rivière-Verte Recreation Centre. Renovations will include new insulation materials, replacement of windows and doors and replacement of lighting systems. Beyond economic stimulus and job creation, the project has the added benefit of encouraging higher levels of participation in physical activity and community building.
Canada’s Economic Action Plan provided $500 million over two years for the RInC program, to support upgrading and renewal of recreational facilities in communities, and to encourage increased participation in physical activity and community building.

A total of $500 million over two years has been set aside through RInC to support upgrades and repairs to recreational facilities in communities throughout Canada. ACOA delivers RInC in Atlantic Canada. The fund, part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, will help mitigate the impacts of the global economic recession by increasing construction activity in the recreational sector.
