KELOWNA, British Columbia, November 5, 2009 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Ron Cannan, Member of Parliament (Kelowna-Lake Country), today announced funding for Dream Wave Publishing, which produces Zamoof! magazine for children.
This funding will help Dream Wave conduct a subscription campaign to reach more readers of Zamoof!, develop a marketing plan, and upgrade its website.
"Dream Wave Publishing is producing a quality, made-in-Canada magazine for kids that promotes important values such as honesty, respect, kindness, and tolerance, while conveying important life lessons," said Minister Moore. "Our Government is pleased to invest in Zamoof! and we are confident of its continued success."
"Zamoof! is a great Canadian resource for children. Not only does it provide a lot of fun for kids through its magazine and website, it also helps nurture creativity and reading and helps young people make safe and healthy choices," said Mr. Cannan. "I am pleased to see our Government supporting home-grown endeavours like this."
"Children's publications face many challenges breaking into a competitive market with limited advertising dollars and demanding production costs," said TeLeni Koochin, Editor and Publisher of Zamoof! "Funding from the Government of Canada has been highly instrumental in giving Zamoof! support to grow and develop. A very big 'thank-you' from all of our production team here at Zamoof! and from the many young people and families nationwide enjoying its pages."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $36,810 through the Support for Business Development for Magazine Publishers component of the Department of Canadian Heritage's Canada Magazine Fund. Last February, the Government announced that it would maintain its support to Canadian magazines through the creation of the Canada Periodical Fund, a modern, streamlined program that will replace the Canada Magazine Fund and the Publications Assistance Program. This new fund, which will be launched in 2010-2011, will continue to invest in industry-wide projects to increase the overall health of the Canadian magazine and non-daily newspaper industries.
