Ref. #2-3284
Ottawa, Ontario (October 29, 2009) - On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) founder, Edward Head, who died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 after a long illness.
A passionate advocate for Métis land claims and harvesting rights, Mr. Head devoted his life to the betterment of Métis people in Canada.
In addition to his work as a trapper, diamond driller, guide and businessman, Mr. Head's accomplishments in Métis politics - as president of the MMF and, then as senator of the federation in 2004 - exemplify his commitment to advancing Métis issues.
He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched.
