Brooks, Alberta
LaVar Payne, Member of Parliament for Medicine Hat, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced Government of Canada support to help Silver Sage Agricultural Society strengthen economic opportunities in Brooks.
"I am pleased to announce our Government's investment in expanding the multipurpose complex in Brooks," said MP Payne. "Upgrades to the building will enable this community to host larger scale events and the increased number of visitors will provide ongoing economic benefits."
Silver Sage Agricultural Society is utilizing the federal investment to construct an additional building to the existing multipurpose agricultural complex in Brooks. This new facility will be used for various trade and agriculture shows which will attract more visitors to the area and provide local businesses with an economic boost. This project will create immediate employment opportunities during construction as well as permanent positions at completion.
Federal funding of $238,155 is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
"We truly appreciate the funding this grant has provided us, without it, this project would not have been possible," said Bill Swenson, President of the Silver Sage Agricultural Society. "The completion of this project will greatly expand the number and types of events we can host, as well as creating employment opportunities for the community."
The fund will provide $306 million over two years to support the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries, for instance forestry, mining, agriculture and fisheries, and communities that depend on the manufacturing industry. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.
